This International Women’s Day, we celebrate inspiring women who are making an impact in business!
At WorkIQ, we are proud to support women entrepreneurs who are breaking barriers and leading with innovation. This year, we’re shining a light on Niamh McPeake and Nicolette Connolly, the daughter-mother duo behind Legal Administration Solutions (LAS).
With a background in billing company, they recognized a huge gap in the legal sector—and took the leap to create a platform that simplifies legal billing, ensuring that lawyers get paid efficiently and fairly.
We sat down with Niamh McPeake to learn more about their journey, the challenges they’ve faced, and the advice they have for other women in business.
Can you tell us a bit about your journey and what inspired you to start your business?
After gaining years of experience in a Billing company, we saw a massive need for a similar service/platform in the legal world and LAS was born. We are extremely passionate about delivering a simple yet effective billing solution to legal professionals across all sectors. We have built an amazing team which allows us to provide excellent customer service, transparency and reliability when it comes to our clients billing. We ensure legal professionals are being paid for the work they are doing by using the latest technologies to simplify the billing process which in turn increases practice income and reduces the amount of time spent on administration.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in your industry, and how have you overcome them?
As a mother of 3 and a woman in business in the legal sector, it’s safe to say there have been many challenges along the way. Luckily, with my mother by my side as my business partner and a very supportive unit of family and friends, we somehow make it work! Being a woman in business makes us want to show that it can be done, albeit while working very hard, and we are very proud of what we have created to date. I am raising two daughters and want them to know that anything is possible as a woman regardless of how hard it may seem. Starting a business in the male-led sector as a woman was daunting but our clients and potential clients have been nothing but positive to our venture and continue to support us as women in business. Our team is made up of mostly women, some of whom are also mothers to young children, and it’s amazing to see that women now have the opportunity to build careers while raising their families.
What advice would you give to other women looking to start their own business?
If you have an idea or a passion, go for it! It’s a rollercoaster but the most rewarding thing you will do.
Are there any women who have inspired you throughout your career?
My mother, and business partner, has always been my biggest inspiration! She has raised me to be a strong woman knowing that there is no limit to what we can do – and I hope I am instilling the same in my daughters. What would we do without the women in our lives!
“Here’s to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may be raise them!“
