We believe that the greatest support we offer to businesses is our people. This sentiment is echoed by our Innovation Centre Director, Eoghan Powell, in his interview with Silicon Republic. We understand the unique challenges entrepreneurs face. “I know what that feeling of working without a safety net feels like for an entrepreneur,” he says. “It’s easy to understand intellectually, but hard to truly empathise with until you’ve been there.”
For many entrepreneurs, the journey can be lonely, and finding someone to talk to when things get tough can be challenging. “Sometimes you don’t want to scare your family or your team if things aren’t progressing as you hoped,” Eoghan explains. “Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan. So, we look to build trust with leaders so that they know they can have an outlet.”
Our facility is sector-agnostic, welcoming businesses from various backgrounds to share space at WorkIQ. We offer flexible office and co-working spaces for up to 60 businesses, along with meeting rooms and conference facilities. We’re not just a workspace but a community, an Innovation Centre expected to support the creation of over 700 jobs and contribute €80m to the economy.
One area we are particularly passionate about supporting is hardware start-ups. “There are lots of really cool hardware start-ups popping up in Ireland, from Manna Drones to Xocean, Danu Sport, and GoEve,” Eoghan explains. “But the narrative out of places like Silicon Valley has always been to move bits and bytes, not atoms.”
As AI progresses, the marginal cost of creating software is likely to approach zero, disrupting many tech companies. Eoghan believes the next wave of exciting companies will come from a more old-school, crazy inventor type rather than the coder type. “I’ve started recently putting a lot of time into figuring out what I can do to help them,” he adds.
