A Dublin-Based Innovation Story
H3D, an Irish co-founded startup with part of its team based in Dublin, has just closed a €4.9 million Series A round to expand its AI-driven manufacturing technology into dentistry. The company was co-founded by Philip Kinsella, who is also its Chief Technology Officer and currently based in Ireland (here at WorkIQ).
From Hearing to Dentistry
H3D originally spun out of Swinburne University in Melbourne, where Phil developed a fully automated design technology. This innovation is already being used by manufacturers to produce hearing aids, noise protection, and custom-fit earphones.
With the new funding, H3D will expand beyond audiology and into dentistry – an industry often slowed by manual processes and technician shortages. Traditionally, dental technicians process one case at a time, with complex cases taking up to half an hour. With H3D’s technology, labs will soon batch-process hundreds of cases in just minutes, delivering consistency at scale.

Global Growth, Local Roots
Although headquartered across Melbourne, Dublin, and Copenhagen, part of H3D’s core team – including Phil – is proudly based here at WorkIQ. The company has grown from one person in 2018 to 30 people in 2025.
As Phil said in an interview:
“Reaching a Series A round feels like a dream come true, especially having grown from a team of one in 2018 to 30 people in 2025.”
Backed by Major Investors
The funding round was led by Significant Ventures (SV), with participation from Swinburne University and Co:Act Capital. According to SV partner Michele Troni, H3D is “ideally positioned to disrupt the larger dental industry” after proving success in audiology.
